To bleed brake system, use bottle with a transparent hose attached so that brake fluid can be checked for air bubbles.
- Bleed brakes in following sequence:
- Right rear caliper, left rear caliper, right front caliper, then left front caliper.
- After bleeding, fill reservoir to maximum mark.
V8 & 100/200 Quattro Models

- Place wooden block between caliper piston and caliper housing, then apply compressed air to brake line bore to force piston from housing.
- Remove piston seal from caliper piston bore using a suitable screwdriver. Use care not to damage piston bore. If either caliper piston or caliper piston bore is corroded, pitted or scored, affected part must be replaced.

Refer to Fig. , when checking operating pressure.
- With engine off, depress brake pedal approximately 20 times to reduce system pressure.
- Disconnect warning light switch electrical connector, then remove switch.
- Attach pressure gauge with hollow bolt and copper washers to brake servo unit. Attach thick copper washer between brake servo unit and banjo fitting and thin copper washer between hollow bolt and banjo fitting.
- Start engine and let idle until pressure gauge reading exceeds 2030 psi.

Brake pressure regulator is mounted on body (left rear), and operated by a spring attached to the rear axle.
- Firmly depress brake pedal once, with car on the ground.
- Release pedal suddenly and ensure lever on pressure regulator moves.
- Raise and support vehicle to remove load from rear axle.
- Press brake pressure regulator lever toward rear.
- Loosen nut from front of spring, then attach spring, without play or tension, to plastic roller.
- Torque nut to 18 ft. lbs.
