Refer to Fig. , when checking operating pressure.
- With engine off, depress brake pedal approximately 20 times to reduce system pressure.
- Disconnect warning light switch electrical connector, then remove switch.
- Attach pressure gauge with hollow bolt and copper washers to brake servo unit. Attach thick copper washer between brake servo unit and banjo fitting and thin copper washer between hollow bolt and banjo fitting.
- Start engine and let idle until pressure gauge reading exceeds 2030 psi.

- Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheels.
- Remove guide pin cap, then lower guide pin using a suitable allen wrench.
- Remove brake hose clip from bracket on wheel bearing housing.
- Swing caliper upward, remove brake pads, then ensure heat shield is in correct position in piston.
- Push piston back into caliper housing. Always remove some brake fluid from master cylinder reservoir prior to installing new pads. When caliper piston is pushed back, fluid is forced out of caliper and into reservoir. After pads are installed, refill reservoir to MAX mark.

Brake pressure regulator is mounted on body (left rear), and operated by a spring attached to the rear axle.
- Firmly depress brake pedal once, with car on the ground.
- Release pedal suddenly and ensure lever on pressure regulator moves.
- Raise and support vehicle to remove load from rear axle.
- Press brake pressure regulator lever toward rear.
- Loosen nut from front of spring, then attach spring, without play or tension, to plastic roller.
- Torque nut to 18 ft. lbs.

ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT
The electronic control unit is located beneath the lefthand side of the rear seat.
- Turn ignition switch to the Off position.
- Remove rear seat.
- Remove spring retaining electrical connector, then disconnect electrical connector.
- Remove screws securing control unit.
- Reverse procedure to install.
COMBINATION RELAY

To bleed brake system, use bottle with a transparent hose attached so that brake fluid can be checked for air bubbles.
- Bleed brakes in following sequence:
- Right rear caliper, left rear caliper, right front caliper, then left front caliper.
- After bleeding, fill reservoir to maximum mark.
V8 & 100/200 Quattro Models
To bleed brake system, use bottle with a transparent hose attached so that brake fluid can be checked for air bubbles.
