DRIVELINE, U-JOINT & CV AXLES REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES FOR 2009 Volkswagen Touareg AUTOMOBILES
Includes CV axle, universal joint, and driveline replacement, for domestic and imported 2009 Volkswagen Touareg cars and light trucks from 1990+.
DRIVESHAFT, Replace -> Front -> Rear
Vehicle: 2009 Volkswagen Touareg 4.2 V8 GAS
Front
Before removing, mark positions of all parts in relation to each other. Reinstall in same position otherwise imbalance will be excessive, bearings could be damaged causing rumbling noises. If droning noises occur when driving, unbolt front driveshaft from flange at front final drive, rotate one hole relative to flange and bolt on again. If droning noises are still audible, front driveshaft can be rotated one hole relative to flange a total of 5 times.
- Select position "N" with selector lever.
- Insert brake pedal depressor V.A.G 1869/2 or equivalent.
- Raise and support vehicle...

CV AXLE SHAFT, Replace
Vehicle: 2009 Volkswagen Touareg 4.2 V8 GAS
Before starting work, stabilizer bars must be coupled in vehicles with decouplable stabilizer bars. Otherwise, there is danger of injury caused by unintentional coupling.
- Remove 12-point nut. Only loosen and tighten 12-point nut if vehicle stands on wheels (risk of accident!). Do not move vehicle when 12-point nut is loosened. Otherwise, wheel bearing may be damaged. If vehicle must be moved with drive axle removed, install outer joint and tighten it to 34 ft. lbs.
- Remove wheel and lift vehicle.
- Disconnect driveshaft from rear final drive.
- Press off tie rod from wheel bearing...
