- Pull parking brake lever with approximately 45 ft. lbs., force and count number of notches.
- Standard value is 5-7 notches with drum brakes and 3-5 notches with disc brakes. If parking brake lever stroke is not as specified, proceed to next step.
- Remove inner compartment mat of floor console.
- Loosen adjusting nut to end of cable rod to free cable.
- Remove adjustment hole plug and to turn adjuster using suitable flat tipped screwdriver.
- Turn adjuster in direction which expands shoes so disc will not rotate.
- Return adjuster five notches in opposite direction.

These vehicles use a bent nail type parking brake cable tension equalizer. The bent nail tension equalizer is to be used only one time to set the parking brake cable tension. If the parking brake cables require adjustment during the life of the vehicle, a NEW tension equalizer MUST be installed before doing the adjustment procedure.

Use bleeder tank tool No. C-3496-B, or equivalent, and adapter tool No. BB400-9A, or equivalent, to pressurize hydraulic system.
Normal pressure bleeder pressure should not be more than 35 psi. On models equipped with plastic reservoirs, do not exceed 25 psi bleeding pressure.
- Attach suitable clear plastic hose to bleeder screw and submerge other end into clear container with clean brake fluid.
- Open bleeder screw at least one full turn.
- Bleed 4-8 ounces of fluid through system until air free flow is maintained.
- Repeat procedure at all screws.
