- Remove upper half of fan shroud.
- Recover refrigerant as outlined under .
- Disconnect electrical connector from A/C clutch.
- Remove drive belt.
- Remove engine cover.
- Remove oil filler tube.
- Disconnect electrical connector from A/C compressor high pressure cutoff switch.
- Remove compressor hose assembly bolt from compressor.
- Remove compressor hose assembly seal washers.
- Remove bolts securing compressor to mounting bracket, then the compressor, Fig. .

- Mark relationship of wheel to hub, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
- On models equipped with full-floating axles, remove hub and drum assembly as described in "Drive Axles."
- On models equipped with semi-floating axles, proceed as follows:
- Install pin into park brake lever.
- Mark relationship of drum to axle.
- Remove rear brake drum retainers, as required.
- Remove rear brake drum.
- On all models, remove return springs and shoe guide, Fig. .

- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove wheel and tire assembly.
- Remove drive axle center cap, if equipped.
- Insert a drift or large screwdriver through brake caliper into one of the brake rotor vanes in order to prevent drive axle wheel drive shaft from turning.
- Remove nut and washer from hub. Do not reuse nut. A new nut must be used when installing wheel drive shaft.
- Using axle remover tool No. J 45859 or equivalent, press wheel drive shaft from hub.
