Brake System Bleed
The TEVES MARK IV anti-lock brake system should be bled in three steps: first, follow the Conventional Bleed Procedure; second, use the DRB II tester to bleed the Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) finally, repeat the Conventional Bleed Procedure.
Conventional Bleed Procedure
Pressure Bleed
- Connect pressure bleeder tool No. C-3496-B, or equivalent, and adapter BB400-9A or equivalent to pressurize brake system. Follow manufactures instructions, for use of pressure bleeding equipment.
- Attach clear hose to bleeder screw at one wheel, place other end into clear jar. Open blee...

Vehicle: 1997 Chrysler LHS 3.5 V6 GAS
System Operation
Under normal braking conditions, the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) functions as a standard brake system with a diagonally split master cylinder and conventional brake booster.
If a wheel lock is detected during braking, the system will enter ABS mode. During ABS mode, hydraulic pressure in the four wheel circuits is modulated to prevent any wheel from locking.
Each wheel circuit has a set of electrical valves to provide modulation to each wheel. Front wheels receive separate signals and rear wheels receive the same signal.

Type 1 Proportioning Valve
Testing
- Install suitable pressure gauges, one each on input side and output side of proportioning valve as shown in Fig. .
- Bleed brake line and pressure gauge, then gradually depress brake pedal and observe gauge readings. Refer to "Hydraulic Brake Controls Specifications" chart.
- Observe left and right output pressures.
- Pressure difference between left and right should not be greater than 57 psi.
- If gauge readings are not within specifications, replace proportioning valve.
Type 2 Proportioning Valves
Description
This system uses proportioning val...

Power Brake Units -> Description -> Operation -> System
Vehicle: 1997 Chrysler LHS 3.5 V6 GAS
System
These units are of the vacuum suspended type. Some units are of the single diaphragm type, Fig. , while others are of the tandem diaphragm type, Fig. . Both single piston and double piston or split system type master cylinders are used.
The vacuum suspended diaphragm type units utilize engine manifold vacuum and atmospheric pressure for its power. It consists of three basic elements combined into a single power unit. The three basic elements of the single diaphragm type are:
- A vacuum power section which includes a front and rear shell, a power diaphragm, a return spring and a pu...
