Description
If a malfunction occurs, the diagnostic system will identify the problem and the ECU will store the codes. At the same time, the system informs the driver of a malfunction with the ABS warning lamp.
Preliminary Inspection
Start engine and drive at a speed of 3-6 mph, then verify that the modulator is operating by listening for motor pump hum and solenoid clicking for one or two seconds. Procedure should be performed within first three minutes after start up. Solenoid valve and motor pump cycling takes place between 3 and 6 mph, as long as brake is not applied.

- Disconnect electrical connector from fluid level switch, if equipped, Figs. through .
- Disconnect brake lines from master cylinder and plug open ports.
- Remove master cylinder mounting nuts, disconnect proportioning valve mounting bracket, if equipped, then remove master cylinder from vehicle.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

Brake System Bleed
- Bleed normal brake circuit using standard procedure as outlined in "Hydraulic Brake Service."
- Turn ignition switch Off, then connect MUT to diagnosis connector in fuse box and cigarette lighter socket, Fig. .
- Turn ignition switch to On position, but do not start engine. Multi-use tester should now be On.
- Follow each of the steps listed in Fig. for each bleed screw in order shown:
- Place a clear plastic bleeder tube on screw to be bled.
