STARTER & ALTERNATOR REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES FOR 2009 BMW 528I AUTOMOBILES

Includes starter and alternator replacement procedures for domestic and imported 2009 BMW 528I cars and light trucks from 1990+.

Starter, Replace -> Automatic Transmission -> Manual Transmission
Vehicle: 2009 BMW 528I 3.0 L6 GAS

Automatic Transmission

Disconnect battery ground cable.
Remove intake air manifold.
Remove nuts and remove cable from starter.
Remove top and bottom mounting nuts on starter to bell housing.
Remove nut on support bracket.
Remove starter motor from vehicle.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

Torque starter motor to bell housing nuts to 10 ft. lbs.
Torque support bracket to starter nut to 12 in. lbs.
Torque support bracket to crankcase nut to 10 ft. lbs.
Torque electrical leads to starter 12 to 24 in. lbs.

STARTER & ALTERNATOR REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES FOR 2009 BMW 528I AUTOMOBILES

Alternator, Replace
Vehicle: 2009 BMW 528I 3.0 L6 GAS

Connect suitable scan tool and retrieve any stored fault messages.
Turn ignition switch to off position.
Disconnect and isolate battery ground terminal.
Remove suction filter housing.
Remove fan clutch.
Remove alternator drive belt.
Drain supply tank for power steering pump into a suitable container, if required. Remove with holder and place to one side.
Remove air hose, if required.
Unlock and detach plug connection.
Remove nut and disconnect battery positive lead.
