Master Cylinder

  • On xA and xB models, disconnect brake lines from master cylinder using tool No. 09023-00100 or equivalent.
  • On tC models, disconnect brake lines from master cylinder using tool No. 09023-00101 or equivalent.
  • On all models, slowly depress and hold brake pedal.
  • Cover outer holes using fingertips and release brake pedal.
  • Repeat previous two steps 3-4 times.
  • On xA and xB models, connect brake lines from master cylinder using tool No. 09023-00100 or equivalent.

  • Remove brake master cylinder as outlined under .
  • Remove battery ground, then the battery.
  • Remove brake actuator and bracket.
  • Slide clip and disconnect vacuum hose from brake booster.
  • Remove brake pedal return spring, clip and clevis pin.
  • Loosen push rod clevis lock nut.
  • Remove four nuts, then the push rod clevis.
  • Remove brake booster assembly from vehicle.
  • Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
    • Torque brake booster nuts to 108 inch lbs.

  • Raise and support vehicle to remove rear wheel.
  • Drain brake fluid into suitable container.
  • Release parking brake lever and remove brake drum.
  • Remove hole plug and install suitable screwdriver into hole on backing plate to hold rear brake automatic adjust lever away from adjuster, Fig. .
  • Compress brake shoe adjuster using suitable screwdriver by turning adjusting wheel.
  • Remove rear brake drum from vehicle.
  • Disconnect shoe return spring from front and rear brake shoe using tool No. 09703-30010 or equivalent, Fig. .
