Replacement

  • Remove 2/3 of brake fluid from master cylinder reservoir.
  • Raise and support vehicle.
  • Mark relationship of wheel to axle flange, then remove wheel and tire assembly.
  • Using a suitable C-clamp, compress caliper piston enough for clearance.
  • Remove brake hose from caliper plug openings in caliper and brake hose to prevent fluid loss and contamination.
  • Remove caliper bolts, then the caliper housing from rotor and caliper bracket.
  • Reverse procedure to install.

Manual Bleed

Pressure bleeding is recommended for all hydraulic systems. However, if a pressure bleeder is unavailable, use the following procedure. Brake fluid damages painted surfaces. Immediately clean any spilled fluid.

  • Remove vacuum reserve by pumping brakes several times with engine off.
  • Fill master cylinder reservoir with clean brake fluid. Check fluid level often during bleeding procedure, do not let reservoir fall below half full.
  • If necessary, bleed master cylinder as follows:
    • Disconnect front EBTCM pipe fitting at master cylinder.
