Disc Brakes -> Tracker Disc Brakes -> Precautions -> Brake Disc Service -> Brake Lines & Linings -> Brake Roughness -> General
Vehicle: 1995 GEO Tracker 1.6 L4 GAS
Brake Lines & Linings
Remove one of the front wheels and inspect the brake disc, caliper and linings.
Do not allow any oil or grease on the linings. It is recommended that all linings be replaced in sets when worn or damaged.
If the caliper is cracked or fluid leakage through the casting is evident, it must be replaced as a unit.
Brake Roughness
The most common cause of brake chatter on disc brakes is a variation in thickness of the disc. If roughness or vibration is encountered during highway operation or if pedal pumping is experienced at low speeds, the disc may have excessive thickne...

Hydraulic Brake Systems -> Description -> Hydraulic Control Valves -> Master Cylinder
Vehicle: 1995 GEO Tracker 1.6 L4 GAS
Master Cylinder
Some vehicles use a conventional tandem master cylinder with two hydraulic pistons operating inline. The primary piston controls the front brake system and the secondary piston controls the rear brake system.
Other models use a master cylinder that operates the same as the conventional master cylinder, but also incorporates a quick take-up feature in the rear chamber to reduce excessive pedal travel which may result from increased fluid displacement required to move the low drag caliper piston out against the rotor.
The quick take-up uses a spring-loaded ball check valv...

Disc Brakes -> Tracker Disc Brakes -> Brake System Bleed -> Manual Bleeding -> Pressure Bleeding
Vehicle: 1995 GEO Tracker 1.6 L4 GAS
The braking system can be bled manually or with pressure bleeding equipment. If bleeding manually, check fluid level frequently.
Brake fluid should never to be reused. Before driving the vehicle, check brake operation to be sure that a firm pedal has been obtained.
Brake fluid will damage electrical connections and painted surfaces. Use shop cloths, suitable containers, and fender covers to prevent brake fluid from contacting these areas. Always seal and wipe off brake fluid containers to prevent spills.
Manual Bleeding
The master cylinder has three brake pipe outlet ports which ...

Drum Brakes -> General System Inspection -> Adjuster Mechanism -> Backing Plate -> Brake Drums -> Brake Linings & Springs -> Parking Brake Cable
Vehicle: 1995 GEO Tracker 1.6 L4 GAS
Brake Drums
Any time the brake drums are removed for brake service, the braking surface diameter should be checked with a suitable brake drum micrometer at several points to determine if they are within the safe, oversize limit stamped on the brake drum outer surface. If the braking surface diameter exceeds specifications, the drum must be replaced. If the braking surface diameter is within specifications, drums should be cleaned and inspected for cracks, scores, deep grooves, taper, out-of-roundness and heat spotting. If drums are cracked or heat spotted, they must be ...
