When working on or around brake assemblies, care must be taken to prevent breathing asbestos dust, as many manufacturers incorporate asbestos fibers in the production of brake linings. During routine service operations, the amount of asbestos dust from brake lining wear is at a low level due to a chemical breakdown during use, and a few precautions will minimize exposure. Do not sand or grind brake linings unless suitable local exhaust ventilation equipment is used to prevent excessive asbestos exposure.

• Remove and discard ^2/3 of brake fluid from largest master cylinder reservoir.
• Raise and support vehicle, then remove front wheel.
• Press caliper piston to bottom of bore using suitable screwdriver or C-clamp.
• Disconnect brake hose at caliper and cap hose.
• Remove caliper mounting pins.
• Lift caliper up and out of anchor plate and off rotor.

Accessing Diagnostic Trouble Codes

• Connect DRB scan tool to data link connector, then place ignition switch in On position. Note the following:
• On 1992-95 models, refer to Figs. through for data link connector locations.
• On 1996 models, data link connector is located beneath lefthand side of instrument panel, near steering column.
• On all models, at DRB screen prompts, select "System / Anti-Lock Brakes / Teves," then read and record module information and any diagnostic trouble codes that are output.

• Disconnect and plug brake tubes from master cylinder. Cap master cylinder ports.
• Remove master cylinder attaching nuts.
• Remove master cylinder from power brake unit.
