Used Power Steering Control Valve (Mechanical)
One can talk about the different parts of a car, but they do not mean much if they are unable to help you to get to your destination. However, the most important of all is the steering wheel or nowadays the power steering wheel. The latter helps to deal with the excessive weight of modern vehicles. A car without power steering may cause problems on a cold morning. The engine might die halfway when you start with a cold motor without power steering.
Power steering works on a simple rule: a small amount of fluid is put under pressure by a pump that is powered by the engine. A power steering control valve then returns excess fluid to the main reservoir. This in turn assists the steering mechanism in directing the tires as you turn the steering wheel. When the wheel turns, the power steering control valve directs the flow of power steering fluid to the proper end of the power cylinder. Consistent regulation of the control valve along with rotation of the power steering wheel is very important.
In case, there is a leak with the power steering wheel then check if the hoses are leaking where it is screwed into the control valve. Also, check if the used power steering control valve “orifices” are stripped. It is always advisable to keep spare control valves so that they come in handy during emergencies. The power steering control valve is situated in the steering control unit that is situated below and ahead of the instrument panel.
There is a piston which is part of the rack. It is so made that the surface on which pressure acts on the driver’s side is twice the area of the passenger side. This means that to keep it stable, there must be twice the hydraulic pressure on the passenger side as on the driver’s side. The steering control unit controls the pressure on the driver’s side.
There is a coupling that connects parts of the steering column with each other. This coupling has a free play when there is no hydraulic pressure. The steering control unit has two gears one of which is driven off the power steering part and the other off the pinion part. Pivoted between these gears are a couple of levers connected to the power steering control valve. The power steering control valve along with the levers keeps the two gears synchronized. Several online catalogs are there that deal with the used power steering control valve.
