Acquires Majority Shares of Compania Ecuatoriana del Caucho S.A. (ERCO).
Strengthens Continental's Operations in Growing Andean Region Market
Access to ERCO's distribution network completes Continental's footprint in all markets in The Americas.
"Majority ownership of ERCO provides Continental with the ability to improve our entire value chain -- from the rubber plantation to the retail stores -- throughout the Americas region through ERCO's strong competence in the tire business," said

Currently, ERCO sells Continental, General, and Barum brands. The tire plant in Cuenca produces both passenger/light truck tires as well as commercial truck tires, and is the only plant in the region capable of producing radial truck tires. ERCO's Share of market is 11 percent in the Andean countries with about 45 percent share in the local Ecuadorian market.
