Air Protect(TM) Technology, the Most Innovative Safety Feature Ever Offered in a Car Seat, to Launch in New Safety 1st Car Seat; Available Nationwide this Summer

As millions of families prepare for that summer road trip, they may not have safety on their mind - but they should. Until now, child passenger safety has largely focused on frontal collisions. However, it is side impact crashes that are on a dramatic rise - by 20 percent over the past two decades, today accounting for 1 in 3 child crash fatalities, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

New research to test car seats for side impact crashes has been developed by Kettering University's renowned Crash Safety Center and Dorel Juvenile Group, the world's largest juvenile products maker.

What does it mean for parents? The Dorel-Kettering side impact crash test method is so significant that it is being presented to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Currently there are no side impact testing regulations. This new research has also led to the development of a new technology - called Air Protect - to protect children in side impact crashes. Through the precise release of air, Air Protect compresses and shields children from side impact intrusion and immediately reduces crash forces where the child is most vulnerable - the head.

    Air Protect is being offered in the new Safety 1st Complete Air car seat.
