Details on New MB88395 Controller for 1394 Automotive Networking Applications

SUNNYVALE, Calif., May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Fujitsu Microelectronics America, Inc. (FMA) today published a new technology backgrounder entitled "How the 1394 Automotive Network Simplifies Infotainment Delivery."

The new backgrounder describes the 1394 Automotive standard, which provides the bandwidth, flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and technological features to satisfy requirements for infotainment networking. The new Fujitsu 1394 Automotive controller incorporates all the advantages that IEEE 1394 brings to the automotive world, while providing a wealth of added functionality that simplifies system integration and minimizes costs.

The backgrounder begins by comparing the three leading contenders for automotive infotainment networking--1394 Automotive, Media Oriented System Transport (MOST), and Gigabit Ethernet--and outlines some of the tradeoffs involved in selecting a networking technology. The paper then describes the new Fujitsu MB88395, a single-chip controller IC that complies with IEEE-1394-2008. As the world's first 1394 Automotive controller for HD video in-vehicle networks, the chip integrates PHY/Link, 800 Mbps bus speeds and built-in SmartCODEC compression.

"This new technology backgrounder highlights the advantages of the 1394 Automotive standard by providing a good analysis of three competing in-vehicle networking technologies," said Akio Nezu, senior manager of product marketing, Automotive Business Group at Fujitsu Microelectronics. "At the heart of these comparisons is the single-chip Fujitsu 1394 Automotive controller -- the MB88395 -- which opens up an enormous variety of opportunities for infotainment systems for today and tomorrow."
