Submissions due April 17th for Annual Jiffy Lube Scholarship Awards

CHICAGO, March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- As a tough economy wreaks havoc for families facing the challenge of paying for secondary education, Chicagoland Jiffy Lube owners are doing their part to help. The "What Drives You?" scholarship program enters its second year of providing financial assistance to local high school students planning to continue their education following graduation.

The locally funded program will award $27,000 worth of scholarships to 14 Chicagoland high school students for the 2008-2009 school year. Two students will be awarded $7,500 each. Scholarship money will go directly towards secondary education, in the form of college or other qualified technical or professional program chosen by each winning student.

Applications for the "What Drives You?" scholarship program are due no later than Friday, April 17th.

Students are asked to submit a 500-word essay detailing what drives them now - an opportunity to express their inner drive and ambitions in life. The scholarships are open to all high school students in the Chicagoland area that are either enrolled in driver's education classes during the '08-'09 school year, or are licensed drivers between the ages of 16 and 18. If you are the parent of a teen driver or a student enrolled in Driver's Ed in the Chicagoland area and would like more information about the "What Drives You?" scholarship program, talk with your child's driver's education teacher, high school counselor or visit www.chicagolandjiffylube.com.
