DETROIT, Feb. 17 /PRNewswire/ --

WHAT:

Congressman John D. Dingell is recognized as Crain's Detroit Business Newsmaker of the Year.

One day after General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC deliver their detailed survival plans to Congress, the domestic auto industry's chief congressional champion will be honored as Crain's Detroit Business Newsmaker of the Year for 2008.

Crain's, the award-winning weekly business newspaper, selected Dingell in part because of his role in the biggest economic story of 2008: the collapse of the domestic auto industry in the wake of the Wall Street financial meltdown.

Editorial Director Keith Crain also noted Dingell's long service to the people of Southeast Michigan and commitment to the environment, which led to the creation and designation of the 5,000-acre Detroit International Wildlife Refuge.
