AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Nov. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Chrysler LLC, in partnership
with the State of Michigan and Oakland County, announced today a partnership
to offer job placement assistance to employees who take early retirement,
voluntary separation offers from Chrysler, as well as employees who may be
involuntarily separated from the company in December.
On October 24, Chrysler announced salaried and supplemental workforce
reductions of 25 percent beginning in November 2008. This adjustment to
workforce levels is in addition to previously announced actions, and will be
accomplished through a combination of socially responsible programs, including
voluntary retirements and -- in order to broaden the eligible group --
salaried employee buyouts. These new programs feature enhanced benefits,
including both cash, new-vehicle vouchers and health benefits. Details on the
new voluntary programs were made available to Chrysler salaried employees on
November 5. Employees have until November 26 to accept the buyout package, and
leave the Company by November 30. If the buyouts do not achieve the targeted
25 percent reduction, involuntary separations will take place by the end of
December.
"These are very challenging times in our country and industry, and the
economic fallout has been even greater in Michigan," said Nancy Rae, Chrysler
Executive Vice President - Human Resources and Communications. "We are pleased
that the State and County will offer outplacement and re-employment services
to those employees leaving Chrysler."
Outplacement and re-employment assistance will be provided through the
nine Michigan Works! One-stop career centers in Oakland County. The Michigan
Works! Troy Center will provide overall leadership for the implementation of
the program, which will offer a range of services including: employment
workshops such as resume writing, self-help workshops such as entrepreneurial
counseling, job services such as career counseling and more.
"We are working hard to keep the Chrysler workforce here in Michigan,"
said Governor Jennifer M. Granholm. "They are talented and skilled and we know
that our 21st Century economy needs them. Therefore, we are going to do
everything we can to help them transition to new employment opportunities."
Michigan Works! is recognized nationally as the largest and most
progressive workforce development association in the country. The
Association's members are the Workforce Development Boards, Local Elected
Officials, and Michigan Works! Agency Directors from all of Michigan's 25
workforce areas. Michigan Works! was established in 1987 to foster
high-quality employment and training programs serving employers and workers by
providing support activities and a forum for information exchange for
Michigan's workforce development system. That system has been recognized by
the National Alliance of Business as the most innovative in the country.
"We are working diligently to ease the transition and the anxiety that
comes with such life altering changes as a job loss," Oakland County Executive
L. Brooks Patterson said. "We want to help these displaced workers find new
employment as quickly as possible. We want them working and we want them
working here. It's human capital that brings value to Oakland County. We all
have a stake in this company and these people."
