WARRENDALE, Pa., June 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Journalists, writers, videographers and photographers who cover the commercial vehicle industry for general interest news outlets can vie for a cash prize of $1,000 through SAE International's Commercial Vehicle Excellence in Media Award.

In its second year, the SAE International Award winner will receive a grand prize of $1,000 for the best article, video, book or photograph about the commercial vehicle industry published for general audiences.

Last year's winner was Greg Bluestein of the Associated Press for his article on emissions.

Commercial vehicle topics include trucking, farm equipment, public transportation, construction equipment and emissions. All nominated work must have appeared for the first time during the dates of Aug. 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008.

SAE International defines a commercial vehicle as any on or off-road vehicle, machine or equipment used for commerce purposes.

"It is very important that the accomplishments and concerns of the commercial vehicle industry are communicated to the public because such topics are important to our lives," Herb Kaufman, Director of Commercial Vehicle Business and Chief Technology Officer, SAE International, said. "We recognize the significant role that media professionals play in covering this industry; these important topics could go unnoticed without the work of these talented professionals. The award will be presented at the 2008 SAE Commercial Vehicle Engineering Congress and Exhibition, Oct. 7-9, in Rosemont, Ill.
