Treat Your Mean Machine Right: Repair Your Turbocharger
If you like powerful cars then chances are you own one too. But do you know what makes your car so powerful? The turbocharger is the part of your car that gives it the force that makes your car a mean machine. The turbocharger injects air inside the combustion chambers of your engine that makes the fuel burn faster as a result you get more power in your drive.
So what happens when your turbocharger becomes faulty? You take it to the mechanic who charges an exorbitant amount from you. What if you could repair the turbocharger by yourself? All you need is a Cleaning solvent, Grease rags, Oil drain line, Turbocharger assembly, Turbocharger toolkit, Boost controller spring, Manufacturer's service manual.
You know the turbocharger is faulty when it makes a loud noise, doesn't give your engine the necessary power and a blue smoke comes out of the exhaust. The repair may need more than one person so it is best to involve a friend.
Repairing a Turbocharger
First clean the outside of the turbocharger with the cleaning solvent. Make sure that all moisture is gone from turbocharger when you are done cleaning.
Next, clean the air passage of the turbocharger and change the element that is used for air cleaning.

Take out any alien object lodged inside the duct area or compressor housing. Cleanse the housing unit as this may lessen any carbon buildup.
Now you must change the air filter. If the oil filter is not clean then it can bring about seal leakage which can be near or on the compressor.
Next adjust the oil level inside the crankcase to the plane recommended in the turbocharger's manufacturer's manual.
Afterwards run a check on the hoses that go from and come into the turbocharger. Check if there are any clogs in the hoses. Often a lot of noise is caused by the turbocharger when the hoses get clogged. After checking the hoses you should replace the clamps firmly.
Move on to the spring that is linked to the boost controller. Take a good look at the spring. The spring can wear out over a long period of time. The spring is necessary for power. Weak spring means weak power. The spring can be easily replaced according to the manufacturer's manual.
Lastly inspect the oil drain line of the car to make out if it's congested, a congested oil drain line can cause a noisy turbo. Observe the oil to see if the draining oil is like sludge or thick. Both the cases mean that there is an obstruction in the line. All you need to do now is change the oil drain line with a component bought from a dealership. After all the repairs are done you should check the car again. If blue smoke comes out of the engine then the car must be taken to a mechanic as the problem is too complicated.
