Drive Right With A Steering Wheel Repair

If we think of controlling the vehicle while driving, the first thing that comes to our mind is steering wheel. It can be easily referred to as the chief controller of the automobile. Your attachment with the car initiates as soon as you hold its steering wheel. The steering wheel has changed with the ever-changing forms and looks of the cars. Previously, these wheels were made of metal with a hard film of plastic over it and grip was artificially provided. Now, with the growing comfort needs, the steering wheel has become more comfortable.

Steering have evolved in their functioning too, now most of the cars have power steering, which tenders a much better control over the vehicle. If this chief controller of the vehicle gets disturbed, then chances of mishap certainly will increase. To avoid the unwanted to happen, we should keep monitoring the steering wheel regularly. Some of the most common issues with the steering wheel are discussed here.

Steering Wheel: Diagnosis and Solutions

The problems with steering wheel have number of causes associated with it. Some of these issues can be diagnosed by a conscious observation, and they can be resolved without giving much effort. Few notable problems with steering wheel are:

  • Hard Turning of Steering Wheel - Sometime you find that it becomes hard to turn the steering wheel in the desired direction. It gives the impression that the steering is being dragged by some unknown thing. This may occur because of several causes including, low pressure in tires, improper wheel alignment, bad power steering box or any such related causes. You can figure out these causes by a simple visual inspection and take the appropriate measures. Lubricating the wheel with a suitable lubricant is always a better option.

  • Engine Idling - The wheel may also produce jerks due to low idling of the vehicle engine. If it is so, then it should be immediately fixed by a learned mechanic.
  • Steering Pump - Inadequate steering pump may also be one of the causes of steering jerks. If the steering pump shows some symptoms of malfunctioning then it should be treated immediately.
  • Frictional Causes - The steering wheel might be touching something in its housing which is providing unusual jumps to the wheel.
  • Vibration of Steering Wheel - At high speeds the steering wheel starts vibrating which can be proved dangerous later. This can be linked to- damaged brakes, loose steering linkages, damaged wheels, improperly screwed wheel nuts and poor wheel alignment.

Most of the steering wheel problems can be attribute to the above discussed reasons. However, if the flaw in functioning of the steering wheel persists, then a specialized treatment is recommended.
