Enjoy A Great Driving Experience With A Steering Pump Replacement

Steering Pump of the car is the heart of the steering system. Many of us wish to change the steering pump of the car, but many a times we get scared of the sky rocketing service charge. But for a longer life of the car it is recommended that the defected steering pump should be replaced. Here is a perfect solution for that. Just read the following important tips and get the job done.

When to Repair

  • If you find it difficult to use the steering wheel, or steering gear, or you find some leakage. The Steering pump needs to be replaced.
  • The trouble can stem from a number of reasons that includes the steering gear.
  • It is basically an issue with the slow leak or pump in its associated plumbing.
  • If a line or hose has a leak so large that it's declining the pressure to the steering gear. Then the pump needs repair right away.

What you need

  • Wrenches
  • Power steering fluid
  • Screw drivers
  • A brand new pump.

Things To Keep In Mind

  • Always gather all the necessary instruments and keep them safely by your side.
  • Choose a surface level to place the vehicle. So that the vehicle do not move or slide down.
  • While dealing with the mechanics of a vehicle insure your safety and always wear gloves and safety glasses to prevent any injury.
  • For very minute details always refer to the user manual. It features the images of the parts you are dealing with, thereby making the work easier for you.

Start the Job

When you are ready with all the equipments and have read all the details, there is no point in delaying the job.

Start with removing the serpentine belt first in order to reach the old pump. Removing the serpentine belt enables you to reach the old pump.

After that the three screws that are attached to the pump needs to be unbolted. These screws are basically a connection between the pump and the engine block.

When the screws are unbolted, just remove the container that contains power steering fluid and don't forget to remove the pump.

Then the power steering container needs to be taken out from the pump.

After that the fluid line that attaches the fluid container to the pump needs to be detached. Now the power steering container needs to be connected to the brand new pump. Also the fluid line should be reattached carefully, to the intake port located on the new pump.

After that the power steering pump needs to be reattached along with the power steering fluid container to the engine block by bolting the three screws that were unbolted in the beginning.

The serpentine belt is then placed around the pulleys as it was place earlier. Fill the new pump lines with around 2 quarts of fresh power steering fluid. Finally check out all the bolts and screws, so that none is left unbolted.
