Here are some tips that may be followed while changing or replacing the control panel of your car. Here is a list of all the necessary equipments required to replace a damaged quarter panel with a brand new one. But it is recommended that you cross check all these equipments with your user manual so that you do not miss out any.
- Sheet metal snippers.
- Vice grips and pliers
- Screw drivers and sheet metal screws
- Bondo body fillers
- Epoxy and metal fillers
- JB Welder
- Glazing spot putty compound
- High build automotive primer
- Rust treatment spray
- Dollies and body hammers
- Safety gloves
- MIG welder
- safety mask
- Safety glasses
- Wire brush and drill machine
- Dust face Mask
Second stage
- Check out the damaged area carefully.
- Think before cutting any extra metal from car so that you do not cut metal from the area other than the damaged one.
- Now get ready with your gloves and do not forget to wear the apron and safety glasses along with the face mask.
- Now take out the metal snipper or the cutting grinder and smoothly cut the edges of the metal.
- Now clean the metal using sand paper or rust scuffer pad. Wire brush can also be used for cleaning the metal piece.
- Now spray some Rust Treatment Spray on the metal pieces.
- Now use your dollies and hammers to shape your metal.
- Clean all the screws and bolts that you removed from the while cutting the metal and clean them properly so that there is no chance of getting the rust again.
- Then apply rust treatment spray on all the screws.
- Now take out all the welding related equipments and place them nearby.
- After doing all the cleaning work, now is the time to do the welding.
- Use vice grips or pliers to hold the metal piece while welding it.
- After that the gaps needs to be filled using metal from a tube and then you can grind all the high spots. JB Weld is used to fill small holes that are in the metal.
- Do not discard any left out metal as it may be used some time later.
- Now when the welding and cleaning is done, you can make use of Bondo body filler, to give final touch to the work.
- Bondo body filler can help in covering the welding marks.
- Since the Bondo filler is hard it may leave marks on the surface of the car, so you may always use a grit sandpaper to lighten it.
- Then finally apply the high build primer as a final touch and see that your car has evolved as a brand new vehicle.
