Oil Pump Replacement
Rejuvenate Your Car With An Oil Pimp Replacement
As we need air, water and food for our sustenance and functioning, in the same way, our automobile also needs air, water and fuel for its movement. The fuel may be predominantly diesel or petrol. Whatever may be the fuel is, the mechanism of its operation with the engine remains almost same. The fuel from the tank flows to the engine and it triggers the fuel into the cylinder-piston system. This oil flow is largely done by the oil pump placed in the oil pan of the engine. It is located at the bottom, and is mainly used for the process of pumping oil through the engine. The spinning speed of the pump is same as that of the engine, so as to maintain the oil pressure in line with the engine speed. Thus oil pump is really crucial for the working of the engine and if any damage occurs to this, then it should be replaced immediately. Various intricacies and technicalities involved in its replacement are briefed in this article.
Oil Pump Replacement Tips
If the oil pump of your vehicle's engine is old enough, then the space between its gear and housing increases. This increase in area will reduce the volume of the oil passing through the engine, which in turn reduces the oil pressure significantly. There is hardly any repair can be done if the oil pump is completely worn out, and replacing the oil pump is usually a last resort in this situation. However, replacing an engine's oil pump is not an easy task at all but we still try and deliver our best to help you to do so. Here are some important steps/requirements for carrying out the replacement:
- Tools Required - The replacement job need some specific tools, such as, sockets of variable size ranging from 10 to 22mm, a torque and a crescent wrench, tool for tensioning the time-belt, oil-pan gasket and tensioner pin.
- Components Needed - A new Oil-Pump obviously.
- Removal of the old Oil-Pump - Removing an old oil-pump is a complicated job and it requires time belt removal. Thus, it should be done with expert hands. First of all, unscrew the tensioner bracket of the alternator. You can start doing it by the three long bolts given on the compressor mounted on the bracket. Keep marking the position of the screws for fitting it again. After removing the bracket, take out the timing belt pulley. To save your time, you can mark the position of the pulley bolts using auto-tensioner pins. After removing the tensioner, just pull out the connections in the oil cooler line. Beware of the compressor mounted over it, as it may slip over the connections. Any leakage in the oil pan must be checked and corrected immediately. Now unbolt the filter assembly by loosening the turbo bolt. This will remove the housing of oil pump and now the pump is exposed to you. Just before removing the oil-pump, pull the pressure sender out. Now, remove the oil-pump from the oil pan. Perform it conscientiously by marking the positions of the bolts.
- Installation of the Pump - Its time for the final job of installing the pump. Replace a new pump with the old one and put the housing over it. Just reverse the above steps in removal and get the replacement done.
The replacement job is highly specialized in nature and you should avoid doing it at your home. These tips are primarily for those who have at least done some apprenticeship in automobile mechanics.
