Mechanical/Engine Repair

Fix Your Car's Engine Yourself

Anatomy of modern machineries often scare us and we hardly take chances with repairing these, and when it comes to repair our favorite car, the situation becomes even dicier. Even if we dare to open the hood of the car, we hardly alter the configurations inside it. This usual fear allows the mechanic to charge unreasonably for the minutest of faults. By overcoming this fear, we can save lot of bucks paid in the repairing job of the vehicle. Ironically, there is not much inside the hood or body of the car which need specialized treatment. Most of its minor wear and tear can be managed by proper manual handling. Even the most complex part, engine, can be handled manually for trivial issues. However, delay in tackling with the minor issues can cause serious harm to your vehicle. Herein we'll try to guide you some of the basic mechanical tuning techniques to keep your vehicle in a functioning state for a longer span.

Some Common Mechanical/Engine Diagnosis and Checks

If our vehicle is mechanically sick, we can easily sense it while driving. Some of the common symptoms include unusual noise from the engine, imbalanced chassis of the car, starting or stopping problems, rough gripping of the vehicle, peculiar functioning of various levers and many more. In an effort to produce a mechanical engineer in you, here we offer some of the most common issues with their correction measures:

  • Unusual Sound of the Engine - Due to excess driving the engine may start producing irregular noises or humming. This noise may occur due to structural disintegration of the engine. There might be some lugs or nuts which are loose and causing sound while the engine is running. This may also occur because of loose oil-filter into it. So just screw these tightly and you can avoid the service charge of the technician.
  • Crankshaft Adjustments - Crankshaft is an important component of the engine which rotates the fly wheel and is a major driving force behind the efficiency of the engine. This is attached to the piston rod and converts the force generated due to linear motion of the cylinder pistons into rotational motion of the fly wheel. Any wear and tear in its arrangement must be checked thoroughly. Debris or dust deposited over the crankshaft can hamper its working and thus reduce the performance level of the engine. It should be properly cleaned and adjusted for an effective output of the engine.
  • Camshaft Adjustments - Camshafts are responsible for the opening and closing of the valves, which allows or exhausts the air-fuel mixture of the engine. The camshaft serves as a diet regulator of the engine and hence plays a vital role in increasing the output of the engine. You just check for the connections of the camshaft with piston rod and engine. Lubricate the apparatus if it is getting roughened.
  • Miscellaneous - By a simple visual inspection you can check for a number of flaws relating to common problem of lubrication and torquing of the screws.

If you are unfamiliar with the very basics of application of automobile-tools, then you should not operate with the complex components and expert advise is recommended.
