Give Your Car a New Life with a Repaired Hydraulic System

Whether you have an old car or a new, taking care of your hydraulic system is a must. Too must pressure or too little pressure both can adversely affect the car. Too much pressure is dangerous. It can cause a damaged piston and it can hurt the extension equipment. If you drive such a car then your life is in danger also. If you feel that the pressure is too high then check the hydraulic pump to see if it is malfunctioning, if it is not faulty then you can decrease the pressure.

Decreasing the Pressure

  • Start with decanting any excessive liquid from the hydraulic pump. The very liquid is what makes the hydraulic system run. Too much liquid means too much pressure so be sure to drain the excessive fluid.
  • Then scrutinize the hydraulic pump system to see if there are any bubbles or other factor that can cause the pressure to increase. The line pinches and buildup - that you must check - are the elements that make the hydraulic pump run to its optimal level of efficiency they also increase the pump's output force.
  • Then you should put in a hydraulic pressure regulating device. A few of the models of hydraulic pump systems have features that let the user increase or decrease the pressure themselves. You should search for a suitable one made for the make of your car.
  • Add in a hydraulic valving pressure switch in the pump system. The switches are made to help control hydraulic pressure all through the pump system and not just inside the pump. Distinct to pump pressure regulating devices, the switches can be manually manipulated when needed.
  • Finally do thorough check of the hoses and the other parts of the hydraulic system. Remove nay that can cause a problem.

However if you have an old car, you might find that the car you own actually suffers from low hydraulic pressure.

Increasing Pressure

  • You need a bit of elbow grease if you want to increase the pressure in your car's hydraulic system.
  • You will need a Hydraulic fluid, old coffee can, and 2 feet of vinyl or rubber hose.
  • Trace the refill and intake port for the hydraulic liquid. The port should be visibly indicated by a rubber plug or airtight sealing cap. A few costly car models can have the plugs or caps visibly marked along with the corresponding fueling illustrations.
  • Angle the pump is a position so that the refueling cap is faced upwards. If the pump is very heavy or large to turn, you can have faith in the fact that the reservoir is made to house the tank in the upright position.
  • Take off the cap. Be careful when you take off the cap as it can cause spillage. Open it while facing away from the seal.
  • Run the hose into the opening for fueling port.
  • Put in the opposite side of the hose into hydraulic fuel inside the coffee can.
  • Let the pump cycle approximately 8 to 10 times so that all the needed hydraulic fuel is taken in and the air trapped inside is expelled.
  • Keep a check on the temperature of the pump do not let the cylinder or pump to overheat.
  • Then wipe off the cap to get rid of any debris or contaminants.
  • Finally replace the cap and seal the port.
