Headlamp/Headlight Repair

Play Safe And Repair Your Headlights Today

When driving at night the headlights are the most important part, they illuminate the road ahead making it easy for you to judge the car on the road. Driving at night can be very dangerous if you are driving with faulty headlights on. It is not easy to judge if the lights are faulty unless a check is done on them.

There are a few steps that should be taken to check the efficiency of the headlights.

  • It is best to get someone to check the lights while you do the test. Otherwise you can park the car in front of a building with windows so that you can ensure the refection of the lights.
  • Then check the headlight by turning on the lights .and turning them off. Keep checking for a while until you are sure the lights are functioning ok. If you find that the lights don't turn on then you need to replace the lights.
  • Next do the same with the tail-lights after turning the car around. Check in your rear view mirror for any discrepancies.
  • Slam on the brakes and see if the both the brake lights turn on at the same time.
  • Lastly turn the car to the side and see if the indicators are working.

If any of the above tests show something wrong with the lights then you must repair them.

Now you may need to fix your headlamps.

How To Fix The Faulty Headlamp

After determining the defective headlamp you must see what kind of headlights the car uses. If it is a halogen bulb based headlamp then you just have to go and get a new lamp, but if it is not then you may have to change the whole headlight.

    Changing the bulb

    • First open the hood of the car and locate the wires that go to the rear of the headlights.
    • Unwind the plastic ring situated at the backside of the headlamp and take out the bulb.
    • Unplug the bulb.
    • Now carefully takeout the new bulb, make sure that you do not touch the glass part of the bulb.
    • Plug the new bulb inside the headlamp.
    • Wind back the plastic ring on to the headlight.
    • Now run an examination on the new headlight.

    Changing the Headlight

    • If your headlight needs to be changed then there are few steps that you need to take.
    • First, remove the tiny screws securing the narrow metal frame that holds down the headlight. Make sure that you don't turn the screws that have tiny springs underneath them. You don't have to remove all the screws to take out the headlight. It is ok if you leave the frame suspended by 1 screw.
    • Next you should place the bolts in your pocket.
    • Then you can pull out the headlight; make sure to unplug the headlight as you do so.
    • Now all you have to do is plug in the fresh headlight.
    • Check the headlights by turning them on.
    • If the headlights are set right then they should work perfectly.
    • Just screw the metal frame back on and you have for yourself a new headlight.
