Engine Installation

Install your own engine

Engine is the heart of any vehicle. It is important that the heart should be healthy and free from defects so that the vehicle should work properly. The engine runs your car, so it is important for you to know how to work with it. If your car has an old engine you can always install a new one.

Here are some of the tips to install the engine safely.

Disconnect the Battery
First of all just disconnect the battery cables of your vehicle and also remove the battery afterwards. This is a safety measure, as it insures that any wire does not short out.

Disconnect All Fuel Lines
A common method requires you to insert a bolt inside the rubber fuel line and then to patch up the leaking fuel a mini clamp needs to be installed. The fuel injected system needs to be dealt with extra caution. It releases a pressure that may be 10 times the pressure released by a carbureted system. While working near fume or gasoline, never use a drop light. Because, if by chance the bulb breaks it may ignite the fumes or gas, thereby, causing sudden fire.

Do Not Disconnect Air Conditioning Lines
If the air condition compressor needs to be removed, remove it carefully as the high pressure refrigerant can cause eye damage and severe burns.

Carefully Remove The Hood
This work requires you to be more careful and alert as the consequences of carelessness can be fatal. Always make use of hinges and springs to loosen the bolts and screws.

Tag Wires
For reassembly and proper location always tag vacuum lines and wires.

Use Clean Tools
Do not use rusted tools. Always lookout for clean tools and the size of the sockets should also be proper.

Use Plastic Bags And Magic Markers
Always mark the bolts and nuts with magic markers while taking them out so that at the time of reassembly they can be located at the right place.

Replace the Worn out Parts
If the parts are defected or worn out they should be replaced. For that you can make a list so that you don't miss out on anything.

To Jack Up The Vehicle
The vehicle needs proper jack while engine installation. So always make sure that the vehicle is supported a strong jack. Do not creep inside the vehicle directly. Always check whether the jack support is sufficient or not. Always wear safety glasses while creeping under the vehicle as you may encounter rust and other harmful dirt particles that may affect your eyes.

Removing The Engine
While choosing to leave the transmission inside the chassis do not forget to support it properly before the engine is removed. Be careful while removing it as it may be very heavy, so always lower it down, till the surface level.

What Else Needs To Be Replaced

  • Clamps and hoses needs to be replaced as it can collapse, or leak.
  • Fan shroud helps in pulling cool air through the radiator. So do check for missing pieces and cracks in that.
  • Don't forget to replace the fan belts if they are broken or damaged.
  • Broken or damaged motor mount can also create problems so check it out for any defects.
  • Finally check all the necessary parts that are damaged or can create problem for your vehicle. Replace them.

Engine installation in itself is not a hectic job but the minute details attached to the procedure needs to be considered.
