Chassis Repair
Make Your Car Look Brand New With a Chassis Repair
Maintaining the inside of your vehicle is an important aspect of car maintenance. Not only does it make the car feel good to drive, it also prolongs its life. The car chassis is an important part of the car and due care should be taken about it. The chassis is the frame at the bottom of the car that supports the various parts that are under the car. A thorough check of the chassis should be done regularly to make sure that there are no loose bolts or any rusting on the chassis.
It is best to get the chassis repaired by a mechanic as some potent chemicals are used during the repair. But if you want to try it out yourself, you should take absolute care when handling the chemicals.
Diagnosis
The only way to know if there is some thing wrong with the chassis is to check it your self. The chassis can be made of metal so the main problem with them is that they may rust. The chances of rusting are more at places susceptible to moisture and more in the places where there is snow. When condensation takes place, the water inside is expelled through small holes, but at times the holes get clogged and then the chassis gets rusted. Start the check from the ending of the main frame, the bars is usually the place where the rust damages the most. When you find the rusted part it is time to start repairing it. If the problem is not too much then you can carry out the repair work on the car with the body on the chassis otherwise you have to dismantle the body from the chassis.
Repair
- If you are removing the body from the chassis then you should inspect the chassis once more to see if there are any other problems with the chassis.
- Firstly, remove the engine and transmission from the body and strip down the chassis to its frame.
- Next, prepare yourself to handle chemicals.
- Dip the frame in special chemicals that are manufactured to take out the rust and grime from the chassis.
- The end result will be very clean and will give an easy to weld surface.
- Then you have to weld away the damaged parts with an electronic welding machine.
- Next you have to consider the schematics of your car to determine the size of the replacement railing part, so that the dimensions of the whole chassis remain the same.
- Weld in the new part.
- Next you must give the chassis a coating to give it a longer life. You can try out paint coating or powder coating. It is best to try powder coating as it gives the chassis a longer life.
- Finally clean out the holes and try to rustproof the insides of the frame also.
- After setting up the auto parts on the chassis, you can assemble the body over it again.
