Save Yourself From Mishaps With The Anti-Lock Breaking System

The Anti-lock Breaking System stops the locking up of the wheels modulating the pressure of the brake automatically in case of an emergency stop. This four-wheel system provides a greater control over the steering to the driver and enables him/her to stop quickly under adverse conditions.

Almost all the cars manufactured after 1995 feature the anti-lock braking system (ABS) so there are chances of your vehicle sporting them in which case it becomes much safer than the ones sporting ordinary brakes. In bad conditions slamming on the pedal of the ordinary break would cause them to lock making your vehicle skid. In such a situation, the brakes need to be "pumped" which is exactly what is done by the anti-lock brakes. They perform the pumping action much faster than that could be done by a human. In 1 second it can pump for ten times. With the ABS, the average drivers can stop quicker than the professional driver without the ABS. Also it has sensors to detect the wheel which has more chances of locking up and the major action is directed there. So ABS brakes can prove to be a real life saver by preventing accidents resulting from the skidding of the vehicles.

Apart from the primary braking system, most of the latest vehicles feature an anti-lock brake system which is electronic. Using high pressure pumps and electronic sensors under particular conditions, the ABS system is capable of measuring wheel slip, brake force and vehicle speed. To complete a repair job one needs to understand today's ABS in-depth.

Integral ABS- This system is a high-pressure Anti-lock Breaking System is powered by a pump unlike the power brakes that were hydraulically boosted. It has been in use for about a decade now and contains hydraulic pump pressure, pressure accumulator, an integrally manufactured pump assembly, solenoid valve block assembly and a fluid level sensor.

Add-On ABS- You can also use an add-on rotary motor ABS control unit in your vehicle. All important pressure adjustments can be found in this add-on pressure modulation unit. It is added to a power brake which is normal and vacuum-assisted and contains the complete modulation and pressure cutoff hardware.

Two-Wheel ABS- RWAL or the Real Wheel Anti-lock is mostly used in heavy vehicles like trucks to prevent wheel hop and the locking up of the rear wheel during adverse breaking conditions.

Some of the common problems experienced by faulty ABS system are break induced steering vibration, the warning light coming on all by itself, and noise from the engine compartment. It is necessary in such cases to take the car to a professional to get the ABS system fixed. It is smart not to repair the ABS system by yourself as the device is complicated.

Maintaining the anti-lock brakes is very important skimping of which will lead to more expensive and even more extensive problems as compared to the ordinary brakes. To keep away from the expensive problems that might bother you in future, the hydraulic portion of the breaks need to be maintained. A flush and fill needs to performed on the ABS after every 24,000 miles which will maintain the freshness of the break fluid and would prevent the ABS from getting moisture contaminated or dirty. Hence it is important to inspect the brake components of your vehicle to know if one of them needs to be totally replaced or simply repaired.
