Oil Consumption On 1989-90 GM 1.0L Geo Engines
AERA members have reported excessive oil consumption on 1989-90 GM 1.0L Geo engines. The amount of consumption escalates with increased engine speed and load. The source of this oil consumption has been traced to the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system. Operating the engine continuously at high RPM causes excessive amounts of engine oil in the cylinder head, eventually overwhelming the PCV system.
It appears that vehicles manufactured prior to the 1991 year did not have sufficient baffling in the engine's valve cover. To resolve this type of condition, a revised valve cover (Part #96065679) and attaching hose (Part #96065703) are available.
