    Low Oil Pressure On
    GM 5.0 & 5.7L Engines

    AERA members have reported another area to consider when diagnosing low oil pressure complaints on GM 5.0 & 5.7L engines. It was found that in some later production cylinder blocks, worn distributor housing bores created low oil pressure problems. However, this problem may exist with any of the block castings that have been manufactured during Chevrolet's twenty-five year
    production of this engine.

    Oil is transferred from the right to the left side of the block through a passage that is completed by a groove in the distributor body (see illustrations). Excessive clearance between the cylinder block and the housing may result in low engine oil pressure. Some cylinder blocks with the casting number 14093638 may have an incorrectly machined, oval distributor body parent bore, which may aggravate this problem. Hole in block should measure 1.250 +/- .002
