Disc Brakes -> AC-Delco Single Piston Rear Disc Brake -> Description
Vehicle: 2006 Chevrolet Malibu SS 3.9 V6 GAS
On all models except Century, Grand Prix and Regal, the caliper assembly has a single bore and is mounted to the support bracket with two mounting bolt and sleeve assemblies, Fig. . Hydraulic pressure created by applying the brake pedal is converted by the caliper to a stopping force. This force acts equally against the piston and the bottom of the piston bore to move the piston outward and to slide the caliper inward resulting in a clamping action. This clamping action presses the linings against the rotor, creating friction to stop the vehicle.
On Century, Grand Prix and Regal model...

BRAKE SERVICE PROCEDURES FOR 2006 Chevrolet Malibu AUTOMOBILES
Includes anti-lock brakes, disc, drum, power and hydraulic brake services diagnostics and procedures for domestic and imported 2006 Chevrolet Malibu cars and light trucks from 1990+.
Power Brake Units -> General Service
Vehicle: 2006 Chevrolet Malibu LS 2.2 L4 GAS
Two basic types of power assist mechanisms are used: vacuum assist diaphragm assemblies, which use engine vacuum or, in some cases vacuum pressure developed by an external vacuum pump. The second type is a hydraulic pressure assist mechanism, which use pressure developed by an external pump (usually the power steering pump). Both systems act to increase the force exerted on the master cylinder piston by the operator. This in turn increases the hydraulic pressure delivered to the wheel cylinders while decreasing driver effort required to obtain acceptable stopping performance.

Disc Brakes -> AC-Delco Single Piston Front Disc Brake -> Troubleshooting
Vehicle: 2006 Chevrolet Malibu LT 2.2 L4 GAS
The most common cause of brake chatter on disc brakes is a variation in disc thickness. If roughness or vibration is encountered during highway operation or if pedal pulsation is experienced at low speeds, the disc may have excessive thickness variation. To inspect for this condition, measure the disc at 12 points with a micrometer at a radius appro...
