- If vehicle is equipped with power brakes, remove vacuum reserve by applying brakes several times with engine off.
- Fill master cylinder reservoirs with suitable brake fluid. Ensure to always keep master cylinder reservoirs at least half full during entire bleeding procedure.
- If master cylinder is suspected to have air in bore, it must be bled first. To bleed master cylinder, proceed as follows:
- Disconnect forward brake pipe connection at master cylinder.
- Allow brake fluid to fill master cylinder bore until it begins to flow from forward pipe connector port.

On models equipped with fuel injected engines, relieve fuel system pressure as outlined under "Fuel System Pressure Relief."
On models equipped with metal collar quick disconnect connectors, GM tool No. J37088-A, or equivalent, will be required to disconnect the connector. Prior to reconnecting the connector, apply a few drops of clean motor oil to the male pipe ends.

- Raise and support vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
- Remove engine splash shield.
- Insert a suitable drift or punch through brake caliper and into brake rotor to prevent wheel hub and bearing from turning.
- Remove wheel drive shaft spindle nut.
- Remove stabilizer shaft link.
- Disconnect outer tie rod end from steering knuckle. Do not loosen tie rod end jam nut.
- Disconnect wheel speed sensor electrical connector, then reposition wiring harness away from ball joint.
- Disconnect lower ball joint from steering knuckle.
