  • Disconnect master cylinder brake lines and electrical connectors.
  • Disconnect hydraulic control unit supply hose at master cylinder. Secure hose aside.
  • Remove two mounting bolts, then secure proportioning valve and tubes aside.
  • Remove mounting nuts and master cylinder.
  • Reverse procedure to install.

  • Disconnect electrical connector and remove filler cap.
  • Raise and support vehicle, remove front tire and wheel assemblies.

Replacement

On models with anti-lock brakes, the brake booster system must be depressurized before disconnecting any hydraulic lines or fittings. Depressurize the system by pumping the brake pedal at least 25 times with the ignition in the Off position.

ABS Control Module

On models less stability control, an ABS control module is used to control ABS and/or traction control. The ABS module is self monitoring. When ignition switch is turned to the run position, the ABS control module performs a preliminary electrical inspection. When vehicle speed reaches 12 mph, the pump motor is actuated for 1/2 second. A fault in the ABS system will cause ABS operation to deactivate and the yellow ABS warning indicator to illuminate. Normal power assisted braking will still remain available.
