- With vehicle in neutral, position vehicle on hoist.
- Mark a line across axle pinion flange, propeller shaft, flange yoke and transfer case for installation reference.
- Support transmission and transmission crossmember.
- Remove propeller shaft from transfer case flange.
- Remove propeller shaft from axle pinion flange.
- Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
- Align reference marks.
- Torque axle flange bolts to 22 ft. lbs.

Clamp only the narrow forged portion of the yoke in the vise. Failure to heed caution may result in damage.
- Remove axle shaft.
- Remove bearing cap retaining snap rings. Saturate the bearing caps with penetrating oil prior to removal.

Vehicle: 2003 Jeep Liberty Sport 3.7 V6 GAS
The right side has a splined axle shaft that will stay in the axle.
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Remove wheel and tire assembly.
- Remove half shaft hub nut.
- Remove stabilizer link.
- Remove lower clevis bolt.
- Separate lower ball joint from lower control arm.
- Pull out on steering knuckle and push half shaft out of knuckle.
- With a pry bar remove half shaft from axle.
- Remove propeller shaft from pinion flange.
- Support axle with a lift/jack.
- Remove bolt from left front axle bracket frame mount.
