  • Disconnect brake fluid level indicator connector, if equipped.
  • Remove master cylinder assembly.
  • Disconnect vacuum hose from brake booster.
  • Working from inside the passenger compartment, remove snap pin and operating rod clevis pin from brake pedal assembly.
  • Remove brake booster retaining nuts, then brake booster from vehicle.
  • Reverse procedure to install. Torque brake booster retaining nuts to 10-17 ft. lbs.

Brake System Bleed

  • Start with wheels connecting to secondary chamber of master cylinder.
  • Inspect for leaks at joints and connections in brake system, repair as necessary.
  • Fit one end of a suitable vinyl hose over brake bleeder and place other end into a container filled with brake fluid.
  • Slowly depress brake pedal and keep depressed.
  • Open bleeder screw and release fluid for one to two seconds.
  • Close bleeder screw and release pedal.
  • Repeat steps until all air is discharged from system.

The brake booster is located inline between the master cylinder and the brake pedal. It serves to mechanically boost the force pushing the pistons of the master cylinder.

The brake booster consists of a power cylinder section and a power piston section. The power cylinder is made up of a front shell, rear shell and a diaphragm. The front and rear shells are connected with the diaphragm placed in between the two.
