  • Remove engine cover, air cleaner and air inlet duct.
  • Drain cooling system until radiator coolant level is below thermostat.
  • Remove radiator hose at coolant outlet.
  • Remove thermostat housing mounting bolts and ground wire.
  • Remove thermostat housing, thermostat and gasket.
  • Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
    • On all models except 7.4L engine, torque attaching bolts to 21 ft. lbs.
    • On 7.4L engine, torque attaching bolts to 27 ft. lbs.

When indications other than normal are encountered, these typical indication charts will assist in diagnosing the refrigerant system. It should be noted that pressures may vary slightly above or below due to changes in ambient temperature and relative humidity.

  • Disconnect all hoses from water pump.
  • Remove alternator upper and lower mounting braces.
