DRIVESHAFT U-JOINT, Replace -> Assemble -> Disassemble

Never clamp propeller shaft tubing in a vise. Clamping could dent or deform the tube causing an imbalance or unsafe condition. Always clamp on one of the yokes and support the shaft horizontally. Avoid damaging the slip yoke sealing surface. Nicks may damage the bushing or cut the lip seal.
Disassemble
- Support propeller shaft in a line horizontal with table of a press.
- Mark propeller shaft in order to show which end connects to transmission and which end goes to rear axle.

DRIVESHAFT, Replace -> Front -> Install -> One Piece Driveshaft -> Rear -> Remove -> Two Piece Driveshaft

Front
Remove
- Raise and support vehicle.
- Mark the front U-joint to the pinion yoke on the front differential.
- Mark the relationship of the rear U-joint to the transfer case drive flange.
- Remove the retaining nuts and bolts from the drive flange.
- Remove the clamps and retaining bolts from the front drive axle pinion flange.
- Remove the front propeller shaft from the vehicle.
- Using tape and or a rubber band, wrap the front U-joint bearing caps to ensure the caps do not separate from the U-joint.
Install
- Remove the tape or rubber band from the front U-joint

Remove
- Unlock steering column so that steering linkage is free to move.
- Raise the vehicle. Support vehicle with suitable safety stands.
- Remove front tire and wheel assemblies.
- In order to prevent drive axle from turning, insert a drift through brake caliper and into one of the rotor vanes.
- Remove axle nut and washer.
- Remove drift from brake rotor.
- Remove front brake rotors and support caliper with piece of wire in order to prevent damage to brake hose.

- Unlock steering column, then raise and support vehicle.
- Remove wheel assembly, then axle nut and washer.
- Support lower control arm, then remove lower shock absorber nut and bolt.
- Scribe all revolving driveshaft components in relation to connecting component to ensure correct balance upon assembly.
