  • Siphon enough brake fluid out of the master cylinder to bring fluid level to1/3 full to avoid fluid overflow when the caliper pistons are pushed back into bores.
  • Raise vehicle and remove front wheels.

    • Disconnect and plug hydraulic lines.
    • Remove two master cylinder attaching nuts, then the master cylinder.
  • Remove reservoir cover and diaphragm. Discard old brake fluid in reservoir.
  • Inspect cover and diaphragm. Replace if cut, cracked or deformed.
  • Remove fluid level switch, if equipped.

Do not mix power steering fluid with brake fluid. If brake seals contact steering fluid or steering seals contact brake fluid, damage will result.

  • Remove two thirds of the total brake fluid capacity from the master cylinder front reservoir, to prevent overflow of brake fluid.

CALIPER REMOVAL

  • Drain approximately2/3 of brake fluid from master cylinder assembly.
  • Raise and support vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
  • If caliper is to be serviced or replaced, remove bolt securing inlet fitting, then disconnect brake hose, and plug end to prevent loss of fluid and contamination. Do not crimp brake hose, as this may damage internal structure of hose. If only shoe and lining assemblies are being replaced, do not disconnect brake hose from caliper.

Pressure bleeding is recommended for all hydraulic systems. However, if a pressure bleeder is unavailable, use the following procedure.Brake fluid damages painted surfaces. Immediately clean any spilled fluid.
