| Summary: | WE PURCHASED A NEW 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO THAT CURRENTLY HAS ONLY 11,475 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. I WAS INFORMED DURING A SAFETY INSPECTION THAT THE BRAKE ROTORS AND BRAKES NEED TO BE REPLACED (COMPLETE) AND HAD COMMENTED HE HAS EXPERIENCED "MANY FAILURES" SUCH AS MINE. FAILURE DUE TO POROUS CASTING OF ROTORS CAUSING PADS TO BECOME UNUSABLE. SERVICING DEALER THAT INSPECTED FAILURE LISTED AS RUST? THE REPAIR WILL COST IN EXCESS OF $700.00. IN RESEARCHING THE FAILURE I FOUND INTERESTING DOCUMENTATION THAT THE FAILURE OF THE ROTOR MATERIAL HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH CHEVROLET PRODUCTS AND MANY CLAIMS HAVE BEEN FILED WITH THE NHTSA. I AM AWARE CHEVROLET HAS PAID CLAIMS TO OTHERS WITH THE SAME CONDITIONS AND I FEEL THE NHTSA SHOULD LOOK AT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE THERE ARE FATALITIES CAUSED BY THIS MATERIAL FAILURE. REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE BY CHEVROLET AT NOT COST TO ME HOWEVER I WAS NOT ENTITLED TO THE ORIGINAL PARTS SINCE COST TO ME WAS WAIVED. NOW WE CAN ONLY HOPE THE NEW ROTORS HAVE A BETTER SERVICE LIFE THEN THE ORIGINAL SET. *TR |
