The number one cause of employee injury in America is from auto accidents. Does your company have a company vehicle policy? You should. In fact you can probably have one in a few days if you will read this article and follow a few simplistic instructions. Your manual should include preventative maintenance, public parking lots and driving courtesy and not conflict with your states vehicle laws or Federal Safety Item Standards from the Department of Transportation. A proper vehicle operation policy could save your business tens of thousands of dollars from just one major accident and definitely save you from being cancelled or seeing a huge rate hike in future premiums upon insurance renewal.

Many business use company vehicles to do services or deliver products to customers, if this is the case in your company please read the outline below. Take this outline, print it and when you have some thinking time, simply modify it a tad bit to fit your business model. Then take a legal note pad and start listing items and a few paragraphs for each numeral and letter item. This will be your rough draft of your new company vehicle operations manual. If you find yourself questioning your knowledge get a booklet from your State's Department of Motor Vehicles and use that to assist you. Once this is complete have a safety specialist look it over and once they have made a few changes have each employee read it and sign a form saying they have read it. Files these forms along with the employees file. You will be glad you did, I know I was.
